Autumn Seedlings Potted up, Finally! - Beginner Gardener's Memoirs
So, Adelaide's finally given us a break from the scorching heat that kicked off our autumn. And let me tell you, it's a welcome relief. Not only does it mean I'm not sweating buckets, but it also means my appetite's back in full swing. And you know what that means? It's time to get those autumn seedlings potted up!
For the past few days, I've been playing greenhouse guardian, rushing out to cover them with a towel when the sun's at its fiercest and making sure they're watered just right. It's become a bit of a ritual to protect these tender little shoots from the harsh Aussie sun.
But I'll admit, I've been dragging my feet a bit when it comes to potting them up. See, the last couple of times I tried, it didn't end well. Either they got fried to a crisp or dried out faster than you can say "seedling." But with the promise of fresh kale, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and spigriello on the horizon, I knew I couldn't put it off any longer.
So today, armed with a mix of determination and a touch of apprehension, I gathered up my supplies. Cell trays, soil, and a whole lot of hope. And you know what? It went better than expected. I carefully transferred each seedling into its new home, gave them a good drink of seaweed solution, and tucked them back into the greenhouse for the night.
Tomorrow morning, I'll check on my little green babies, making sure they're happy and hydrated. It'll become a daily routine, checking on them morning and night, ensuring they've got just the right amount of water and sunlight to thrive.
Here's to the promise of a bountiful autumn harvest and the satisfaction of knowing I've played a part in bringing it to life.
Much love,
